Twisted is back!

My webcomic Twisted is back. The independent, dark comic features a lot of pitch black humor and crimson red commentary and centers around 4 dysfunctional Ladies.

I update it Tuesdays. I am deeply enjoying working on this, even though that style is not marketable. Comics always force me to learn a lot of stuff I could study.

If you enjoy black comedy, are a fan of splatter and drama, some noir and crime, conspiracy, feel invited to follow the ongoing story on http://www.twistedcomic.net (English) or http://www.twistedcomic.de (German)

I started the story in 2001 through 2004, reworked the script and redrew it until 2007 and applied at a publisher, who never wrote back. Since I have this story burning in me and finished in rough script, I need to get it out. Luckily, the web let's me play around with some animation and alternative formats and presentations.
Book 1 (first 24 pages) are from 2007. Starting with book 2, you will see pages from 2013.

Welcome! And not for kids ; )

the calendar of 2013

First of all, I started a facebook page just about my artworks and appreciate every follower. There I organize news and projects:
Gabrielarts on Facebook

This week I finished a calendar for 2013. I decided to do one quite late - to be precise 2 weeks ago, because I really missed drawing my dates onto the wall and did not find a calendar I liked. Since this is so late, I offer the print-file as a free download.

It's A2 and organized in weeks, with the summer months occupied by tentacly goodness - as it should be.

you can use and print this file as often as you want and apply your individual changes, but please do not cut away the (small) signature or make money of this.

Enjoy : )

BUND-comic competition finalists

I love working with Maren Marmulla. Luckily, we found out last minute about the competition of the BUND (Friends of Earth, Germany). The task was to make sailors aware of the problems of sea pollution.

Read the 3 page PDF.
We did not win but were honored as one of the best entries. Thank you for this competition, and thanks to Maren again for the great collaboration. It's always fun!

Art prints

Greetings dear visitors!

I have been asked repeatedly for art prints. My goal was to offer high quality prints on very good paper and the closest possible match to the original colors for a good price, so that everybody might be able to afford them. These are the three that made it into a first edition:

Art Print Set

I put them up in singles and in a package over at my dawanda store. Every image is numbered (the first edition has 10 of each image) and signed. If you wish for a personal dedication, just tell me. They come at 10 Euro and 25 Euro combined and are A3. I send them in an cardboard A3 envelope so the images are not rolled or folded. Shipping is 4-5 Euro.

I hope, i did not miscalculate international shipping because for A3 Maxi Letter it seems to be cheaper internationally.

Have a nice day!

Geheimnisvolle Bibliotheken

In February I finished the last strokes on a dear and fun project: An 8 pages short comic for "Geheimnisvolle Bibliotheken" Mysterious Libraries. A dark fantasy collection by Carolin Gmyrek, featuring 23 short stories and all together 3 comics. I really liked the idea to weave the comics into the prose. The titles of the comics read one sentence together. My word was "Schweigend" being silent.

It's a small, viciously inked story about a post apocalyptic library and its last inhabitant. I love having the last "word" in this 400pages strong book.
Thank you very much for asking me and giving me the opportunity to tell a story.
Available on Amazon. (German)

Extra Credits ep. 99 - Video

Yay, I was very lucky to work on another episode of Extra Credits. Visit it over at the Penny Arcade TV:

Visit this Blog Entry for notes on the references and a collection of some of the drawings from the episode. The Hero's Journey (pt 2) was a great topic to pop-culture-reference my brains onto the canvas. Thank you : )

Exhibition!

Dear readers,

I am very happy to announce an exhibition in the Gallery "Fango" in Cottbus (by Berlin), Germany. The solo-exhibition focuses on my graphic work that centers around psychic disorders and translations of strong feelings. I do not plan on showing comic works, but comic lovers, ink fetishists and tattoo fans are probably the right target. Ach, heck, I don't really understand, what my "target audience" is. So be it - if you enjoy intricate, detailed artwork, searching for clues and like to see my artwork in person and on paper, feel very, very invited.

It opens on the 25th of February and will run for about a month. The exact opening hour and the program for the vernissage will follow soon. I am happy for every friendly face to turn up and say hi! I will probably be too excited to function rationally - maybe seeing me blabber incoherently is also worth a visit.

There will be some limited high quality prints to purchase and some posters. Galerie Fango also host concerts and a coffee shop.

VanCanto Poster!

Hey Folks!

I am very proud to present (a very small!) version of the Poster I did for the special Edition for the new VanCanto Album - Break the Silence. It's out today!

I illustrated the very complex Song "A Storm to Come", circling around the Peer Gynth topic in a modernized Version.

The poster is on the back of the booklet, carefully crafted that no fold will obstruct any character's head. Boy, that was a challenge and I enjoyed it!
Check out their Music. They do acapella! Metal! Seriously. And they can do that life!

And stay tuned, to hear more about the Peer Returns Project!

The gab-shop!

Major stuff is happening!

First of all: I passed my final test before the diploma way better than I expected. I rarely heard so many good advices and had the impression, that the examining professors really, really got me. It was actually fun! Well, who would have thought after all those sleepless nights and bad starts.

But - alas! - I present to you: My webshop at DaWanda.

DaWanda is a shopportal for selfmade stuff. I wondered, how I should handle selling my Calendars and this was the Solution. Aaand, finally, my dusty buttons got a new polish and i look forward to update the shop.

Feel very invited to check it out.
Thank you!

An interactive Christmas Carol

In November 2010 i finished the work on A Christmas Carol for Padworx.

The awesome guys from Padworx made this video with a first version of the Cover that follows along the tracks of the machine that is supposed to also turn pages. The application hit Itunes and made it to the feature page. It was one of the best projects I was allowed to work on so far. Without the help of Maren Marmulla this project would have a lot more sketches and a lot less finished illustrations. There is nothing as motivating as working with people who are also lit up for a project.
