the calendar of 2013

First of all, I started a facebook page just about my artworks and appreciate every follower. There I organize news and projects:
Gabrielarts on Facebook

This week I finished a calendar for 2013. I decided to do one quite late - to be precise 2 weeks ago, because I really missed drawing my dates onto the wall and did not find a calendar I liked. Since this is so late, I offer the print-file as a free download.

It's A2 and organized in weeks, with the summer months occupied by tentacly goodness - as it should be.

Diploma

On the 10th of July I had my final presentation for my Diploma. I got the best grade possible and am very thankful for this. A lot of people helped me to realize this work - starting with my parents and my husband, followed by the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and the people directly involved in this Project. The motion designers Christian Neie and Lisa Scheumer, the Band van Canto and the Producer, Texter and Author of the Metaproject Peer Returns: Gregor Hopf.

I presented the Music Video for Peer Returns and a concept to make it interactive.

Monsterbook and Font!

Hey!

Woah, i have more material to do just one blog entry. For my diploma I created a Font I want to share with you today.

So, here it is - free for commercial and non-commercial use. Be aware that the kerning is off, though - you have to adjust it by hand. Designed for Headlines.

(part of the drawing used to create the font)

Download Here.

In 2004 I closed down a page - a collection of monsters. This font made me want to do the redesign. And while I read up tons of stuff for my diploma, I treated myself to drawing little monsters and redesigning that page, whenever I hit a minor milestone... well, they're more milepebbles...
It is not fully functional yet, but the monster entries work. I will post more sketches and stuff when i come around to make it presentable.
Later, there will be an entry form for your own monsters as in the good old days!

Have a look and laugh about my programming mistakes. Everything that is really good is done by my husband, though ; )

Check it out:

Thank you for your time!

VanCanto Poster!

Hey Folks!

I am very proud to present (a very small!) version of the Poster I did for the special Edition for the new VanCanto Album - Break the Silence. It's out today!

I illustrated the very complex Song "A Storm to Come", circling around the Peer Gynth topic in a modernized Version.

The poster is on the back of the booklet, carefully crafted that no fold will obstruct any character's head. Boy, that was a challenge and I enjoyed it!
Check out their Music. They do acapella! Metal! Seriously. And they can do that life!

And stay tuned, to hear more about the Peer Returns Project!

Final Documentation!

Right now I am insomniacing around, because my final exam for my studies is looming... For this I created a portfolio with everything i did in the university.

Some of the Pictures do not have a link to their full size (web)versions, because... i wished to have worked with an editor...

The hard task to complete this work in an economical (time- and production cost-wise) way, include different presentation formats (from video to photo to text-only) and yet make the whole thing one publication fitting to a presentation that i am about to give on the upcomming thurstday.

These three chapter-deviders where done for a different book. I printed them out in A1 to illustrate a presentation.

"Ein Buch muss die Axt sein für das gefrorene Meer in uns." Kafka

"Typographie, mag sie noch so armselig sein, ist niemals selbstverständlich oder auch nur zufällig." Tschichold

"... durch die Dinge durchsehen, wie wenn sie aus Glas wären" (Tucholsky)

Now... wish me luck for the final exam!

An interactive Christmas Carol

In November 2010 i finished the work on A Christmas Carol for Padworx.

The awesome guys from Padworx made this video with a first version of the Cover that follows along the tracks of the machine that is supposed to also turn pages. The application hit Itunes and made it to the feature page. It was one of the best projects I was allowed to work on so far. Without the help of Maren Marmulla this project would have a lot more sketches and a lot less finished illustrations. There is nothing as motivating as working with people who are also lit up for a project.
